Volunteers in Partnership is a collaboration between Literacy Works and The Community College of Baltimore County to provide trained volunteers as tutors and classroom assistants in our adult literacy programs.  This is a most rewarding opportunity to help others progress in academic skills and improve their lives.

At the conclusion of the Orientation Session, a potential volunteer may select one of the following programs in which to participate. Each program offers different volunteer opportunities and additional training.

● Adult Skills Enhancement (ASE) : Adult learners have skill levels that range from non-read through eighth grade level. Three hours more of training are required.

● General Education Development (GED): Students’ skill levels are at eighth grade and above and they are working to be able to successfully obtain a high school diploma by preparing for the GED test.

● Tutors One-on-One Program: Volunteers go through an additional 15 hours of training and learn how to assist an individual student at low skill levels or with learning disabilities with improving their academic skills.

● Are offered throughout Baltimore County for individuals who wish to learn more about the volunteer program. Click here for a chart with the dates, times and locations.

● Are 3-hour sessions.

■ Role of the volunteer.

■ Volunteer options.

● Can be provided at a company’s workplace if at least five employees are interest in becoming adult literacy volunteers.
